Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get my DOT number?
USDOT numbers are typically issued within 1–2 business days after we submit your application to the FMCSA. In many cases, your number is available the same day.
What is the difference between a DOT number and an MC number?
A USDOT number identifies your company for safety and compliance purposes. An MC number (motor carrier authority) is required if you transport regulated goods for hire in interstate commerce. Many carriers need both.
When are IFTA quarterly filings due?
IFTA returns are due four times per year: April 30 (Q1), July 31 (Q2), October 31 (Q3), and January 31 (Q4). Late filings result in a $50 penalty plus interest on any unpaid tax.
Do I need an IRP apportioned plate if I only operate in one state?
If you operate exclusively within one state, you generally do not need IRP apportioned registration. IRP is required when you operate in two or more member jurisdictions with a qualifying commercial vehicle.
What states require a separate highway use tax permit?
New York (HUT), Oregon (weight-mile tax), Kentucky (KYU), and New Mexico (WDT) all require separate registration and quarterly filings for commercial vehicles operating on their highways. We handle all of them.
How do I renew my IRP registration?
IRP credentials expire annually. We track your renewal date and handle the paperwork before your expiration to keep your vehicle on the road without interruption. Contact us to set up renewal reminders.
